Who we are

Warmonger is a browser-based strategy game at playwarmonger.com, operated by Si Harris, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. Contact us at support@playwarmonger.com.

What we collect, and why

Game progress on your device. Your saved campaign, roster and settings live in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device unless you sign in. Clearing your browser storage deletes them.
Account details (only if you sign in). Signing in is optional. If you do, we receive your email address from your chosen provider (Google or email sign-up), handled through Google Firebase Authentication, and you choose a display name inside the game. We use these to save your progress, trophies and purchases across devices. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
Leaderboard entries. If you enter the Weekly Challenge, the username you chose and your run record are shown publicly on the in-game leaderboard. Your name from your sign-in provider is never published. You can change your username at any time in Settings. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
Purchases. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers; we store only the record that your account owns the content, the amount, and Stripe's transaction reference. Lawful basis: performance of a contract; retention of transaction records is a legal obligation.
Crash and bug reports. If the game hits an error, a technical report (game version, the error, and the state of your current run — never your email or name) is sent to us so we can fix it. Lawful basis: legitimate interest in keeping the game working.
Analytics (only with your consent). If you accept analytics on the cookie banner, Google Analytics 4 collects aggregated usage data — screens visited, battles fought, how far players progress. Declining changes nothing about the game. Lawful basis: consent.

Cookies & analytics

The only optional cookies we use are analytics (Google Analytics 4). They stay switched off until you accept them on the banner, and the game is identical if you decline. This is the complete list:

Separately, the game keeps strictly-necessary local storage on your device — your saved campaign, a suspended battle, your settings, your cookie choice itself, and (if you've bought content) a note that it's unlocked. These aren't tracking cookies, nothing about them leaves your device by themselves, and the game cannot function without them, so they don't require consent. Clearing your browser's site data removes them all.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data, ever. It is shared only with the processors that run the game: Google (Firebase authentication, database and hosting services; Google Analytics where consented) and Stripe (payments). Each processes data under its own published terms and safeguards. Some of these providers process data outside the UK; where they do, transfers rely on their UK-recognised safeguards such as the UK Addendum to Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

Local saves: on your device until you clear them.
Account data (progress, trophies, entitlements): while your account exists, or until you ask us to delete it.
Leaderboard entries: for the running season; historical champions may be retained as part of the game's records.
Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
Crash reports: until the underlying fault is fixed, then routinely cleared.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, and — where processing rests on consent — withdraw that consent at any time. Email support@playwarmonger.com and we'll respond within a month. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Warmonger is a general-audience game. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13; accounts require you to be 13 or over, and purchases require you to be 18 or over (or 13 to 17 with a parent or guardian's consent). If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, say so in the game. Continued use after a change means the new version applies.
